Sarum Compline in the Crypt - March 8 at 7:00pm
Compline is the official Night Prayer of the Church, which forms part of the Divine Office, or the Liturgy of the Hours. This Lent we have a unique opportunity to take part in the sung Office of Compline according to the Sarum Rite, which was widely used in England prior to the Reformation. Dr. William Renwick, Professor Emeritus at McMaster University, and Canada’s foremost expert in the Sarum Rite, will give a brief presentation and then lead the Hamilton Gregorian Schola in sung Compline. All are welcome, and the service will be followed by a wine and cheese reception.
The Feast of St. Joseph - March 19 at 6:30pm
Every year Canadians from coast to coast gather in homes, restaurants and pubs on March 17 to celebrate St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. However, two days later most Canadians entirely ignore our own patron, St. Joseph. This year on Thursday, March 19 please join us for a special Sung Mass in honour of St. Joseph, the Patron of Canada at 6:30pm, followed by the Litany of St. Joseph. This will be in addition to the regular morning Mass at 7:30am.
Tenebrae in Holy Week - April 8 at 7:30pm
During the evening on Spy Wednesday, (Wednesday of Holy Week), please join us for the noble, solemn and very moving Office of Tenebrae. “Tenebrae”, the Latin word for “Darkness”, is a combination of the Liturgies for the Hours of Matins and Lauds from the Divine Office for the final days of Holy Week. The Hamilton Gregorian Schola, under the direction of Dr. William Renwick will lead us in the Service of Tenebrae sung in Gregorian Chant. All are welcome at this simple, yet moving, way to enter into the Paschal Triduum.
