Provincial Lockdown Beginning on Boxing Day
Restrictions at the Basilica of Our Lady Immaculate
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
As you are likely aware the Government of Ontario has ordered a province wide lockdown in an attempt to curb the coronavirus spread in Ontario. This will affect the Basilica of Our Lady in the following ways:
- All Masses for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day will continue as planned. Please remember to bring your ticket with you for Mass.
- Beginning on December 26 there will be no public Mass or other Liturgies, anywhere in the Diocese of Hamilton, until further notice.
- Any Mass intentions that have been requested will still be honoured. I will offer Mass each day for these intentions.
- Holy Mass will still be broadcast every Sunday, and on January 1, on our YouTube Channel (Music at the Basilica)
- The Parish Office will be closed, but phone messages and e-mails will be checked regularly
- Baptisms, Weddings and Funerals may still proceed with no more than ten people, including the priest, in attendance.
- If you need a priest in an emergency situation please ask the nurse at your health care facility or e-mail me directly at [email protected]
I know that it is rather poor timing to ask for your financial assistance at the same time that I tell you that we’re shut down, but if you could continue to make your regular donations it would be very helpful and very much appreciated. Donations can either be mailed in, or placed in the Office mail box, which will be checked twice daily. Additionally I will be in the Parish Office from 10:00am until 12:00pm on Saturdays for anyone who would like to drop off their donation in person.
Please pray for a swift end to this lockdown, and to the coronavirus, so that we may all resume our usual parish life as soon as possible. Please continue to check our parish website for any further notifications regarding the lockdown and its effects on our parish.
Faithfully yours in Christ,
Fr. Ian Duffy (Rector)
