Today begins Holy Week which is like no other week in the Church’s calendar. It is a week of intense prayer and emotion. We encourage you to join in all the liturgical celebrations. The blessing of palms has an unforgettable grip on our imagination. The centre of the liturgy on Palm Sunday is the reading of the Passion. Everything including ourselves should be made new in Holy Week. Our parish, our homes and our families are to be transformed by the celebration of Easter. On Monday night at the Cathedral Basilica of Christ the King Bishop Crosby will celebrate the MASS OF CHRISM, when the Holy Oils for the sacraments will be completely replenished and blessed and taken to each parish in the Diocese. Easter is the first Sunday after the first full moon of springtime. Be on the lookout for the “paschal” moon rising in the East at the precise time the sun sets in the West. Imagine the day when there is not a single moment when the earth is not bathed in light from heaven. We will celebrate the three great days of the Triduum beginning at sunset on Holy Thursday when we respond to the Lord’s command, “Do this in memory of Me.” During these days the faithful should keep the spirit of these days as much as possible. Lead a quieter, simpler life on Good Friday and Holy Saturday and rejoice with one another on Easter Sunday. All should keep the paschal fast between Holy Thursday and the Easter Vigil. Come and join us!
