At the beginning of our prayers and the beginning of Mass when we say “in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” we sometimes wonder is the Trinity one name or three? Each person of the Trinity exists for and from each other. A pure relationship, their names do not separate them from one another. The Father is only so called because of the Son, and the Son because of the Father. The Holy Spirit is the love between them. This is our confession of faith and in our belief of God’s love and forgiveness for us. The Eucharist is a mystery not because it is mysterious but because it is a sign of God’s secret purpose, which is to unite all things in Christ. We confess that we are sinners and we help each other into the freedom of accepting our fragility and weaknesses. We repent of our sins not wallowing in guilt but by remembering that our personal stories are part of the larger picture, we are now able to stand upright and claim our dignity as children of God. We come from God and go to God and then take up the journey again. The drama of grace, becoming people who believe, hope and love involves the destruction of false images not only of ourselves but also of God. Forgiveness is sharing God’s own life through life, hope and love. This is followed by listening to the spoken Word of God which is born in silent reflection as we strive to discover our personal relationship with God.
