Social Justice and our St. Vincent De Paul Team
Our St. Vincent de Paul group is looking to expand our focus of work from one that is primarily charity based to one that also includes Social Justice initiatives. The focus includes looking at ways to address positive changes in our systems, structures and attitudes that tend to keep people living in poverty. A major focus for this year with the support of the National Social Justice Committee is to examine the issue of Housing with the theme being that “safe, secure and affordable housing is a basic human right”.
We are looking for volunteers willing to work with us to assist in this area on an individual, community and institutional level. We will be using the resources provided by the National Committee to assist those who are experiencing systemic barriers that maintain them in poverty; subsequently, we wish to improve their living standards.
If you are looking to volunteer to help the disadvantaged in our area, want to work as part of a team along with other Guelph parishes, have any work experience, knowledge and/or general interest in Housing issues or any other Social Justice topics, we need your help.
If interested please contact either Michael Finoro, SVDP Basilica of Our Lady President, at 548-988-1393 or Elaine Ferguson, Social Justice representative at 905-749-1921 to discuss how you could participate and provide input.
