The Feast of the Presentation of Our Lord (Candlemas)
Tuesday, February 2, 2021
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Tuesday, February 2 is the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord, also known as Candlemas. On this day we recount the presentation of the infant Jesus in the Temple by the Blessed Virgin and St. Joseph, fulfilling the words of the prophet Malachi, “The Lord whom you seek shall suddenly come to His Temple” (Mal. 3:1). On this day the church has a long standing custom of blessing candles recalling Jesus as the Light of the World.
Mass for Candlemas will be broadcast on our YouTube Channel (Music at the Basilica) at 9:00am on February 2. From 10:00am until 6:00pm the Blessed Sacrament will be exposed in the front porch of the Rectory. Blessed candles will also be available to pick up at the front of the Rectory. If you would like to come for a time of prayer before the Blessed Sacrament please remain in your car, or if you are outside in front of the doors then please wear your mask and observe social distancing.
At 6:00pm the Angelus will be recited, and a blessing with the Blessed Sacrament, will be imparted over our city, asking for the blessing and protection of Almighty God for all of our people.
I hope that you will be able to avail yourself of this graced opportunity for prayer with our Eucharistic King.
May God Bless You All!
I remain faithfully yours,
Fr. Ian Duffy, Rector
