God created the earth first, prepared it and beautified it. Then He created man, the crown and final masterpiece. From all eternity the Three Divine Persons decided, “Let us make man in our own image, in the likeness of ourselves and let them be masters of the fish of the sea, the birds of heaven, the cattle and all the wild beasts and all the reptiles that crawl upon the earth.” (Gen.1:26). Then when the time had come, on the sixth day, “God created man in the image of Himself, in the image of God He created him, male and female He created them.” (Gen.1:27). Since Adam was made to show the power, the wisdom and beauty of God, his body was the most perfect thing in visible creation.” God fashioned man of dust from the soil. Then He breathed into his nostrils a breath of life and thus man became a living being.” (Gen. 2:7). Therefore, man’s soul is directly created by God. Every human body since Adam and Eve is produced by the God-given powers of parents, but the soul is created directly by God at the very moment of conception. The presence of the soul gives the body life and when the soul departs, the body becomes lifeless and gradually returns to dust. Adam’s soul and his descendants’ souls are spiritual. A spiritual soul has neither length, nor depth, nor breadth; it has neither shape or parts; it cannot be seen by the eyes or touched by the hands or known by any of the senses. Adam’s soul was by nature immortal. This means that the human soul can never decompose, living through all eternity.
